Stonehenge

Stonehenge at Dawn

While over in England, I decided to take a look at Stonehenge. Haven’t been for years, and this time would definitely be different – Sunrise…

Freezing cold out there. Really. A few photographers were milling around waiting for them to open the access tunnel. As soon as they did, we all streamed in and through the little gap in the fence that was normally ‘forbidden’. People had different ideas. Mine was to take pictures… others were to touch the stones and absorb their energy… others still were to go into a trance-like state. However you look at it, it was a pretty magical place at that time in the morning.

Stonehenge at sunrise in England.
Owned by ‘The Crown’, it’s one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world. It’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

St Paul’s. Reflected.

St Paul's Cathedral Reflection - London

Wanted to get a different view of St Paul’s, so was looking around intentionally for reflections. The building opposite (One St Paul’s Churchyard I think it’s called) did the job nicely, and I took this shot featuring the dome, and the cross on the summit. I also like the dark areas between the columns on the front of the building reflection.

Can’t decide if I should be lobbying for the removal of the flag pole on the building though.

Bad joke. Sorry.

Blurred Trees in Georgia

Trees whizz by on the way to the Okefenokee swamp, Georgia, USA. At this point in the roadtrip, we’re just over halfway though the trip. For the moment though, blue skies and motion-blur trees.

Superman-ville. A side street.

Brick Wall

So we turn up at this town – Metropolis. Hm. Heard that somewhere before?
Daily planet… Kryptonite… Red capes?…

Sure enough, there was a gigantic statue of superman in the town square. Across the way from where we were parked there was a computer store selling superman-themed computer systems. The town in Illinois lays claim to be the ‘home of superman’, however it was down one of the side streets that this wall caught my eye. Almost seems painted.

Peeling Tiles

Peeling wooden roof tiles

So not exactly the most obvious shot, but I thought it was cool the way that the tiles were peeling up having been exposed to the elements for so many years…

We just got back from a road trip, covering a somewhat staggering and an even-more-so unplanned 5,800 miles of the US. Finally got to see some of the ‘flyover’ states, and now I can appreciate why so many people prefer not to take the 30,000 feet route.

Near the Cool Springs Baptist Church on the Blue Ridge Parkway, USA.

Yank Tank

Chrysler in Cuba

This is an even older photo – but still one that I love. Taken long ago on a trip to Cuba outside the Hotel Nacional in Havana. It’s one of the pictures that made it to the randomly generated header photos for the blog too…

This old Chrysler, beautifully kept, was a stark contrast to some of the other cars and buildings nearby. Known to some as ‘Yank Tanks’, some of these pre-revolution imports look to have weathered more than this incredible car.
